IMPORTANT: Rowan's Law Implementation
Submitted By Adam Gordon on Wednesday, September 18, 2019
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE YOUR ACTION IS REQUIRED: Ottawa high school student Rowan Stringer died at 17 on May 8, 2013 when she was tackled hard during a rugby game. In the spring of 2018, Ontario passed concussion safety legislation designed to protect amateur athletes and educate coaches about the dangers of head injuries.

The Ontario Hockey Federation was informed by the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport that the Rowan’s Law Act and Regulations must be implemented by July 1, 2019.

Every Player, Team Official and On-Ice Official (parent as well if individual under 18) in order to register/participate must review the OHF Concussion Code of Conduct and the appropriate Concussion Awareness Resources. This review and acknowledgement must take place prior to participation in the first game.

Please review the following Rowan's Law age appropriate resource with your player. SDMHA Requires you to print off and sign the below acknowledgment form. You will have an opportunity to hand the form in during our In Person Registration events, Local League Formation Days and Rep Tryouts. Once again Acknowledgement must be made by everyone prior to stepping on the ice for the first game!
