COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
Submitted By Mike Hadley on Wednesday, September 22, 2021
As we head into the season, we understand that a lot of contradictory information has been going back and forth regarding the COVID protocols that we in Stirling Minor Hockey are mandated to follow.  To try and clear things up, we've put together a list of the rules that we all need to follow to let minor hockey go forward.

As per the OMHA Vaccination Policy issued on Sept 9, 2021 the following list of Affected Persons are required to be fully vaccinated no later than October 31, 2021 in order to participate in any OMHA Sanctioned Activity:

- Players born in 2009 or earlier
- Team Officials (Coaches, Trainers and Managers, etc.)
- Game Officials (referees, linespersons, timekeepers, etc.)
- Association Officials (minor hockey association directors, officers, executive and staff)
- OMHA Officials (directors, officers, executive and staff, including hockey development personnel)
- Volunteers
- Instructors (third parties engaged by Associations or Teams to provide specialized instruction (e.g., power skating, goaltending coaching)

Additionally, as per the arena rules (under direction from the local Public Health Unit), the following restrictions are in place (as pertains to SDMHA minor hockey):

- Masks are mandatory inside the arena
- Social Distancing of 6 feet to be maintained
- Covid screening required before entering the building
- Contact tracing must be maintained
- The canteen will be reopened this year, and food and drink may be consumed following social distancing rules
- Arena capacity has been increased to allow up to 65 people in the stands, and 60 through the lobby and entrance area.
- Youths (under 12) are not required to be vaccinated
- Anyone over the age of 12 (that is not participating) MUST show proof of being fully vaccinated to be admitted in to the arena

Please remember that SDMHA has no say in developing these rules, however we must ensure that the rules are being followed or we run the risk of losing our hockey season.  We understand that there are many strong viewpoints on these rules but would ask that everyone is patient and remember that the volunteers tasked with enforcing the rules have nothing to do with creating the rules.
