The Stirling Blues U9MD team returned to home ice on Saturday in commanding fashion, defeating the Brighton Bolts 7-4. It was the Blues' first game back on familiar territory since mid-December, and they made it count despite facing adversity with a shortened lineup and a few players battling through illness.
Owen Jenkins set the tone early, opening the scoring in the first period with a pinpoint wrist shot that found the top corner of the net. Jenkins didn’t stop there, putting on an offensive clinic by notching five goals in total, a performance that left the Bolts scrambling for answers.
The Blues maintained a strong defensive game, limiting Brighton’s offensive opportunities and giving their goalie, Eli Gunning, the support he needed. Gunning also made several key saves, including stopping a penalty shot with just 13 seconds left in regulation to seal the victory.
Additional goals came from Mitch Montgomery and Blake Buxton, while Nolan Wilkinson showcased his playmaking skills by recording two assists on the night. Though the Bolts made a late push with two goals in the third period, the Blues stood their ground and kept the game firmly in hand.
With this win, the Blues continue their impressive run and now look ahead to an exciting matchup against Prince Edward County this Saturday at the CAA Arena. The 2 p.m. game will provide both teams with a "Pro experience" atmosphere, courtesy of the Belleville Senators.
The Stirling Blues are proving they have the resilience and talent to tackle any challenge this season, and their latest performance is another step forward in what has been an exceptional campaign.
