Stirling Blues U8/U9 Jamboree Official Rules


Date: March 19 and 20, 2022

Location: Stirling Community Centre

U9 Division (BB and below; LL)

  1. All U9 games (both divisions) will be played on March 19th

  2. Teams are guaranteed 3 games.

  3. Games will be full ice games

  4. Games will be 3 x 10 minute stop time periods

  5. If a 5 goal differential exists at any time in the 3rd period the game will proceed under run time until the goal differential is reduced to 2 goals at which point stop time will resume

  6. To start the games each the time clock will be set to 14 minutes and commence once both teams are on the ice. At 11:00 the buzzer will sound indicating the end of warm-up but will continue to run. Teams are expected to be lined up ready to start the game prior to the clock reaching the 10:00 mark indicating the start of the period. Officials will be ready to drop the puck at 10:00. Should a team or teams not be prepared the clock will continue to run until play has commenced at which normal stop time rules will commence. Game play will not start prior to the clock reaching 10:00.


U8 Division

Modified-Game Format: 

  1. All U8 games will be played on March 20th

  2. Teams are guaranteed 3 games.

  3. Jamboree modified-games will be played in a Half-Ice format. 

  4. Games will be 2 x 22 minute run-time periods  

  5. Shift length shall be 2 minutes and on a set time/buzzer system. 

  6. The Lightweight (4 oz.) Blue Puck must be used. 

  7. Games will be played five (4 + goalie) versus five 

  8. Face-offs are used at the start of each game and each period. 

  9. No scoring or standings are to be recorded. 

  10. No penalties or offside/icing are to be called. Any player determined by the official to have incurred a penalty will be substituted for another player. The official shall blow his/her whistle to indicate an infraction has occurred and identify the player to be replaced. Puck possession will be given to the non-offending team in their defensive end and play will resume upon completion of the substitution at the officials direction.


General Jamboree Rules:

  1. Local facility guidelines require masks to be worn and daily screening for COVID symptoms. Safe practices including distancing and hand washing are also encouraged.

  2. This is an Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) sanctioned tournament in which OMHA and OHF rules apply. An OMHA representative will be available during the tournament to answer any questions regarding OMHA policies and procedures.

  3. By entering this tournament, all coaches and/or managers on behalf of their teams, must release the OMHA, Stirling & District Minor Hockey Association (SDMHA) and the Tournament Committee and all officials, referees, sponsors, volunteers, arena management and all concerned with the tournament from any and all liability of injury or accident which may be incurred by any player or team official while participating in coming to or going from the tournament.

  4. Teams must submit an approved roster and obtain a travel permit prior to participating in the jamboree.

  5. OMHA, OHF and Hockey Canada playing rules apply to all games.

  6. Suspension rules used for the tournament will be the same as found in the OMHA Manual of Operations. It is the offending team’s responsibility to ensure that all tournament suspensions and carry-over suspensions are adhered to. Violations during the tournament will result in the forfeiture of the affected games. The Tournament Committee will assist if there are any questions or clarifications regarding rule and suspension interpretations.

  7. Any player or team official receiving a game misconduct, gross misconduct or match penalty will be ejected from the remainder of the jamboree

  8. Teams will be permitted in to the dressing rooms 30 prior to the scheduled game time and must vacate the dressing rooms 20 minutes following the completion of the game

  9. Teams should be prepared to start up to 15 min prior to the scheduled game time

  10. In the spirit of the jamboree format there will be no play off rounds in the tournament and no standings points awarded for games.

  11. The decision of the Referees is final, no appeals will be heard. It must be emphasised to all coaching staffs and parents that the Tournament Committee cannot and will not overturn any penalty issued before, during or after a game regardless of the circumstances. The suspension appeal process can be found in the OMHA Manual of Operations.

  12. Parents and guests are the responsibility of the team. Inappropriate parent or guest behaviour towards the competing team, any children, referees, coaches, arena staff, tournament staff, OMHA staff and/or other parents may result in the expulsion of the TEAM from the tournament. Assistant Conveners will be present at each game to monitor behaviour.

  13. In the event that a game cannot be played due to mechanical breakdown of arena equipment or any unforeseen facility related event a financial return of $100 will be given to the affected teams.
